Rajiv Gandhi was the former prime minister of India and leader of the Indian National Congress Party. Born in 1944 in New Delhi, the capital of India, Rajiv Gandhi worked as a pilot before actively participating in politics. After the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi in 1980, he entered politics and became the prime minister of India. Rajiv Gandhi attracted attention as a young and dynamic leader when he took office. He started the "Computer Revolution" with the importance he gave to information technologies and modernization. However, he was exposed to many criticisms throughout his political life and had difficulty coping with the ethnic and religious conflicts in his country. Rajiv Gandhi died as a result of an assassination attempt by Tamil guerrillas in 1991. Now he is still remembered as a respected political figure in India.
